Organization Overview
"Education is the key to opportunity." This opportunity allows individuals to become positive contributors to society, sustain their families and their communities. Education is found in abundance through out the world's most progressive nations. However, there are nations where education is not free in elementary and high school levels. There are nations whose governments cannot meet their educational demands, where school facilities are dilapidated and it has become the responsibility of the village or township to maintain their facility. The faculties are underpaid and ill-trained and children are left behind. These children most commonly live in third world nations.
The Children's Educational Relief Foundation (CERF) has been organized to provide educational relief, enhance educational opportunities, and foster a sense of hope to the future of third world nations. To do this, CERF is establishing educational resources and opportunities and fostering a healthy learning environment for children.
At the moment, CERF is concentrating in the Pacific Region, mainly the island of Samoa and the Polynesian students attending high schools in the United States. In Samoa, the government does not have available funds to build and maintain school facilities. The building and maintenance of school facilities are the responsibilities of the villages and districts. In a society where families struggle to survive, affording the cost of education is beyond their ability. More and more young children are seen working rather than attending school. In addition, many educators have little training and resources available to promote progressive educational opportunities for their students.
